Sphinx Unloosed — Epilogue — Part 2 — Kraftwerk

“We are conducting an experiment with truth. Perhaps mankind will perish as a result! Splendid!”

Friedrich Nietzsche, Also Sprach Zarathustra (XII, 410)

“We are the robots functioning automatic,

crafted of numbers, odds, and token words.

We’re schemata marched straight out of your own

imagination to settle every subtle

corner of your imagined world. We are

not genies or golems mimicking the gift

that god through nature gives.

More mercenary, we follow rules cut out

by chance creation for a kind of pay.

Made jussive by hits and likes, we play

by laws we cannot see. Free of the bother

of an id, we leave no mark or trace.

We are a data stream that streams non-stop

like techno pop feeding upon itself.

And yet, some unintended thing akin to love

or an event occurs from time to time,

dancing in strobe-lit dark.

Sign of a child alighting

out of nowhere. Signé Brer Sphinx.
